Viva Sistah: Empowering Girls Through Superhero Stories.
Lisa Smith, CEO of Viva Sistah, transformed a fun creative idea into a purpose-driven brand that celebrates representation, confidence, and the power of imagination. Inspired by superhero movies and the lack of young superheroes who looked like her, Lisa created a 12-year-old girl superhero using a younger version of her own image. She printed the character on T-shirts and shared them with family and friends.
The idea quickly attracted attention when people stopped her on the streets of Brooklyn to ask about her unique character. Encouraged by their enthusiasm, Lisa began selling her products at street festivals, on Etsy, and through Amazon’s Black Business Accelerator program.
As an emerging entrepreneur, Lisa is now focused on increasing brand awareness and reaching more customers over the next 12 months. While limited financial resources present a challenge, her growing online sales and passion for her mission keep her moving forward.
Viva Sistah is about more than superhero merchandise. Lisa wants every girl to recognize her worth, believe in her abilities, and see herself represented among successful people in every field. Through her all-girl superhero characters, she hopes to inspire the next generation to dream bigger, build confidence, and believe that they, too, can become heroes.
